Established in 1963. Oscar and Josephine Medina opened Zacatecas Cafe in 1963 on the corner of Park and University Ave. The Mexican eatery consisted of three tables, and twelve-bar stools that faced the open hot kitchen-there was no air conditioning. Back then, there was a loud jukebox and a public telephone that hung over one of the tables. Sometimes the noise and heat were overwhelming, but that didn’t stop the crowds that formed during the lunch hour.
Today, the restaurant continues to be operated by the second generation Husband and Wife team, Vicky & Jon. Every dish remains prepared by the very same recipes developed by Josephine Medina. Every day we are hard at work carrying the legacy of Oscar & Josephine. We welcome you to be apart of our family and invite you to join us at our relocated location near UCR.
