Celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week: Riverside Shines Bright
Riverside proudly celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week — and we’re especially excited to shine a spotlight on The Cheech and the Festival of Lights, two of the many cornerstones of our vibrant cultural landscape that quite literally light up our city and its spirit.
This annual week of tourism celebration is more than just a nod to vacations and getaways — we see it as a tribute to the people, places, and moments that shape the identity of our communities. And here in Riverside, tourism is a powerful reflection of who we are.

The Festival of Lights, presented by The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa, was voted the fourth-best public holiday lights display in the United States by USA Today. This dazzling tradition is a beloved Riverside staple, cherished by the community — and in 2023 alone, it generated an impressive $97 million in local economic impact. It’s more than a festive display — it’s a beacon of community pride and prosperity.
Equally impactful is The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture, affectionately known as The Cheech. Named after actor and comedian Cheech Marin, known for his iconic work in Cheech & Chong and as a lifelong advocate of Chicano art, this vibrant cultural landmark has generated $29 million in economic activity in just its first two years. It celebrates our rich Spanish heritage while showcasing the creativity and cultural contributions of the Chicano community.
As we celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week, we raise a toast to the experiences that bring people to Riverside — and to the community that makes them unforgettable.
Here’s to the places, people, and culture that make Riverside shine.
